  About Central Point Live Weather

Central Point Live Weather is a private owned personal weather station located in Central Point, Oregon. The station started collecting weather data since March 2004 and have been known for a reliable weather data source other than the official NOAA weather station at the Rogue Valley International Airport (KMFR).

Central Point Live Weather Station was founded by Brad Foster, a weather enthusiast who has always been interested in meteorology since he was a kid. He would constantly monitor the weather as he grew up. As a kid, he would pick up the newspaper, read the weather section and announce the forecast to his family on the dinner table.

The Equipment

The weather data is collected using an Oregon Scientific WMR-968 wireless weather station, which records more than 20 weather conditions. The station is wireless and each component transmits data to the receiver, which is a console that displays data on the LCD screen. The console is connected to my PC and the data is sent to the Virtual Weather Station software, which creates graphs and displays on the computer screen.

The station has three weather cameras, one pointing north and another pointing south and the third one taking pictures of our rooftop. Those cameras capture images every 60 seconds and transmits the images to my PC with Image Salsa software, which creates images with weather data on them. Those images are compiled into time-lapse movies using the Movie Salsa software on a regular basis. The time-lapse movies allows you to see our weather in fast forward speed from midnight to midnight. Our cameras have infrared lens and are able to see at night.

Contributors

I designed and programmed the majority of this site, but I would not forget to mention other contributors. Although, I had to modify a bunch of scripts in order for them to work on my site, I would like to show gratitude to the following folks who created awesome base scripts which are being used on many personal weather sites:
